“Team Leader Jennifer Lee, who has been building connections in the Korean-American community for 27 years”

Jennifer Lee, who joined Duo America in 1998 as its very first employee at the time of its founding, has now been on the frontlines for 27 years. Having led countless successful matches, she still says, “This work is my calling.” We sat down with Team Leader Lee to hear about her journey over the past 27 years.

― How did your connection with Duo America begin?

“I joined as a founding member in 1998. But even before that, back in my university days in Korea, I once appeared on a student special of the show Studio of Love. That memory stayed with me, and when I later saw Duo’s advertisement in the newspaper, it naturally sparked my interest.”

― Over the years meeting so many members, what moment stands out the most?

“I’m always happy whenever members share their marriage news. But honestly, what touches me more than highly educated or well-off members getting married is seeing people who once lacked confidence or had low self-esteem transform through counseling and meetings. That’s the most rewarding part. Also, when members refer not only their children but even their grandchildren to me, I feel deep gratitude—as if I’ve met lifelong fans.”

― In your experience, what traits do members who find success in marriage tend to share?

“Those who listen carefully to their manager’s advice and approach meetings proactively end up finding good matches. Effort never betrays you.”

― How has the marriage culture changed compared to 27 years ago?

“In the past, people focused heavily on conditions. Now, many want a partner who feels like a friend, someone who shares hobbies and communicates well. Men tend to respect women’s professional achievements but still hope for family and children. Women often prefer professionals, but above all, they find kindness and warmth most attractive.”

― What’s the current age range of new members?

“The youngest male member was born in 2000, and many women born in 1996 are joining actively. Men born after 1991 are joining in large numbers, too. However, men born in the mid-1980s sometimes struggle with moving from dating into marriage.”

― What strengths do members say you have as a manager?

“I often hear that I’m good at matching. People say I have a keen eye for understanding others. Above all, members remember my kindness and consistency, which I deeply appreciate. I’ve never been late or absent from work all these years, and that’s because I truly feel a strong sense of mission in this role.”

― We heard you also enjoy running personally.

“Yes, through running I’ve completed all six of the World Marathon Majors, and more recently I finished the 50km UTMB ultramarathon. I believe physical strength is essential to properly supporting members with counseling and guidance.

On top of that, Duo America’s President has completed 60 full marathons and 6 ultramarathons. I truly admire his accomplishments, and with that same drive and perseverance, he continues to lead member matchmaking with unstoppable momentum.”

― What makes Duo America different from other services?

“We’re different from app-based online dating services. We emphasize sincerity and a human touch. We don’t just arrange one-on-one meetings—we also operate direct offices in New York and LA, where in-person counseling remains our guiding principle.”

― What are your goals for the future?

“I believe doing what you love is the true happiness in life. This is my calling. I want Duo America to continue building trust within the Korean-American community and to carry on the pride of Korean families. Personally, I also have a small dream—that one day, Son Heung-min might find his perfect match through Duo.”
